Apple said it took steps to improve privacy in iOS 10, which adds a number of tools to help protect end users.
With iOS 10, iMessage, FaceTime, and HomeKit will use end-to-end encryption, which makes data unreadable by anyone other than the sender/recipient.
Apple said one of iOS 10’s best new features, the revamped version of Photos, uses on-device intelligence to identify people, places, and things, but does not use that data to build profiles of users.
Moreover, iOS 10 adopts what Apple calls Differential Privacy. This method allows Apple to analyze the usage patterns of large groups of iPhone and iPad users without providing Apple or its partners with any individually-identifying factors.
Apple says Differential Privacy will help with the QuickType keyboard, Spotlight link suggestions, and Lookup Hints in Notes. Apple claims Differential Privacy will allow it to collect useful and shareable data that can’t be tied to any one person.
