Google CalendarGoogle Apps users will soon have to spend less time managing their calendar thanks to a new feature headed to Gmail.

Gmail will soon automatically populate Google Calendar with flight, hotel, and other travel information it sees in the inbox. Google will go beyond simply creating events; it will include location details, directions, flight numbers, and check-in times.

Google says events added by Gmail will only be visible to the calendar owner, who will be able to delete unwanted events and alter visibility settings to include colleagues. When it becomes available, Google Calendar users will be greeted with a card on their handset followed by an email in Gmail explaining how it works. The feature can be turned off any time.

Google Apps is the business version of Google’s core productivity services, including Gmail, Calendar, Docs, and Drive. The feature won’t be available to government users, and is not yet being made available to normal users.

The new functions will roll out to all Google Apps users over the next few weeks.
