New details on the hotly anticipated Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain have surfaced online via a recent press event in Los Angeles.

Journalists got to spend a fair amount of time with Hideo Kojima’s upcoming stealth-action sequel, and wasted no time in divulging some interesting tidbits on the upcoming title, which hits stores in September for PS4, PS3, PC, Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Website multiplayer.it (via DualShockers) spilled a fair amount of info on the game, which included details on the sixth mission set in Afghanistan. For starters, players are able to select a costume for Snake, along with a primary (x2) and secondary weapon (x2) plus gadgets and a companion before playing the mission itself.

Snake’s dropped the ‘Naked’ part of his name and is now known as Venom Snake, which is explained at the beginning of the game. Once he’s touched down, players can control Snake on horseback with the Square button to gallop and the analog stick to steer the beast. You can also hide off the edge of your horse by pressing X to avoid being spotted by enemies.

The bottom-right of the touchpad is used to activate the iDroid, where you can access the map, select waypoints and call on support from Mother Base. R1 is used to bring up your scope.

The mission itself sees Snake having to recover a missile launcher, although there are several sub-mission to tackle. At the start, players can select when to depart, either AM or PM. The game world itself is described as ‘definitely big,’ with multiple sections available to explore, all without loading times. Outposts are dotted across the landscape on the road to the mission objective, which the writer speculates can be conquered to obtain materials.

Gamers are able to tackle the mission either by stealth or direct combat, though the journalist describes the former as more satisfying. He also faced off against the Skulls; these foes proved so tough that the player had to dispatch them with a rocket launcher.
