The Nintendo 3DS is now able to play videos from YouTube. A new app download available from the 3DS eShop for North America and Europe lets users view shows on the handheld Nintendo game console, though despite the capability of the 3DS to show glasses-free 3D imagery on one of its screens, the app will not support 3D videos from the service.

The top screen is used for video playback, writes Joystiq, with the lower screen used to show video statistics, suggested videos, and basic playback controls, as well as allowing users to search for other videos while the current one is still shown on the other display. The shoulder triggers, directional pad, and other buttons can be used for navigation instead of the touchscreen.

Video services on the Nintendo 3DS already exist, with both Hulu Plus and Netflix offered on the device.
