YouTube Go App Comes to More Countries

Google today made its data-saving YouTube Go mobile application available to a much wider selection of countries around the world. The app had been available in about 15 countries, but that number jumped to 130 thanks to today’s expansion.

YouTube Go functions regardless of connectivity status and gives users fine-grained control over data usage. It also strives to be locally relevant. Google says YouTube Go’s home screen highlights trending and popular videos in the user’s area. People can see a short preview of each video before choosing to play the entire thing. This can help cut down on data usage.

The app supports downloading via WiFi so videos can be played back when offline. YouTube Go allows people to dial in the exact resolution they want so they can save data when out and about, and then enjoy high-definition content when connecting via WiFi. Moreover, the app lets people share videos with friends and family without using any data.

The latest update makes it possible to share more than a single video at once. The app adds a pull-to-refresh tool that delivers personalized recommendations.

Last, YouTube Go supports notifications so people can opt to be alerted when their favorite channels publish new videos.

YouTube Go is free to download.
