Yahoo has relaunched its mobile email product for smartphones on several fronts.

First, the company has wholly rebuilt its mobile web app. The browser-based Yahoo Mail experience now mirrors that of the Yahoo Mail app for phones. For example, it lets people swipe through their inbox, customize the look and feel of the inbox, organize email via folders, take advantage of auto-complete and auto-suggest, and initiate more quick actions.

Yahoo says the web-based app supports a home screen icon for Android and iOS alike. Yahoo rebuilt its mobile web app using web standards such as JavaScript, PHP, Apache, and AJAX. At the same time,

Yahoo is rolling out a version of Yahoo Mail for Android Go. Android Go is Google’s slimmed-down version of Android for very-low-cost phones. Typically, devices running Android Go have 1 GB of RAM or less. Yahoo Mail for Android Go offers all the same features of the full-fledged Yahoo Mail app, but boasts an install size of less than 10 MB and RAM usage of less than 50 MB. The app uses the same architecture as the standard Yahoo Mail app.

The new Yahoo Mail web experience is available from most mobile browsers, while the new Yahoo Mail for Android Go app is available from the Google Play Store.
