XR-620 Is the Newest 802.11ac Wireless Point in the Xirrus XR Line

Xirrus has announced the newest addition to its XR line of 802.11ac wireless solutions, the XR-620 wireless access point. Previously, the XR family of products included modular arrays aimed at high traffic environments; as well as indoor and outdoor access points with capabilities suitable for small to medium traffic density environments.

What sets the XR-620 apart from its siblings is Xirrus’ new “expandable” wireless performance. “The insatiable demand for wireless continues to create new and more complex challenges for organizations everywhere,” says Bruce Miller, vice president of product marketing at Xirrus. “While new, higher speed 802.11ac may help address some of these pain points, technology transitions can be disruptive.”

The XR-620 access point can be purchased for a palatable price by small or medium sized institutions that have no need for 11ac performance now but will want to upgrade in the future. “To help our customers with this, Xirrus offers a unique approach with a broad range of 11ac solutions starting with the new entry-level pricing of our XR-620 up to ultra-high performance of our wireless Arrays,” continues Miller. “Organizations scale at different rates, with vastly differing drivers. Today’s announcement helps accelerate the adoption of 11ac in the enterprise.”

Image courtesy of Xirrus.Xirrus’ XR-620 offers 2.4GHz or 5GHz operation at either 802.11ac or 802.11n, although the two speeds can be run simultaneously thanks to the XR-620’s dual radio capabilities. The XR-620 is able to run at 867Mbps per radio. According to Xirrus, “Dual radio 11ac operation enables the XR-620 AP to deliver 30 percent greater 11ac performance compared to 11ac access points on the market today that are limited to only one 802.11ac radio due to their fixed configuration.”

Xirrus lists several possible use cases for the XR-620, such as hotels looking for long equipment lifecycles, enterprises with large BYOD implementations, or any business looking for a cost-effective and easy transition into 802.11ac wireless access.

The XR-620 will available later this month at a starting price of $675.00. For more information on Xirrus’ XR product line visit www.xirrus.com.
