Xbox One Gets a Makeover for Chinese New Year

To celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year/Lunar New Year, Microsoft has commissioned new custom Xbox One consoles that are very unique. The eight consoles were designed by local artists from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan and aim to “capture the essence” of the Year of the Monkey, which begins February 8.

The designs vary wildly and are all stunning.

One was made to look like a monkey (with a banana-colored controller to match), while another uses design cues modeled after the Forbidden City in Beijing. Yet another, the Golden Sand Ingot, is meant to look like a sand sculpture, featuring gold ingots that symbolize “endless fortune.” All the photos are at the bottom of the post.

Microsoft also notes that the artists conceptualized, designed, and built their consoles in just one month.

These consoles are not for sale, but instead will be on display at Asian retailers for the New Year.
