Western Digital has updated itsĀ line of WD Red hard drives to include two new 2.5-inch versions designed for network attached storage devices. The 1 terabyte and 750 gigabyte-capacity 2.5-inch drives join the line alongside with a new higher-capacity 4 terabyte 3.5-inch model, beating the size of its previous largest model by 1 terabyte.

The new SATA drives continue to offer the same NASware technology for NAS device compatibility as its predecessors, along with improved reliability and error recovery, with higher operating temperature thresholds when compared to standard hard disks. All Red drives now ship with the updated NASware 2.0, which will help it in its use in media servers and storage appliances.

Shipping now, the 750GB 2.5-inch drive costs $79, with the 1TB version at $99. The new 4TB 3.5-inch model, also supplied with a three-year limited warranty, costs $229.
