AMC’s The Walking Dead launched its ninth season on Sunday night and was down significantly in Live+Same Day ratings.
In fact, Nielsen data shows the episode had a 2.5 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.1 million viewers – the lowest key demo rating since the show began.
It was also down 50% in the key demo and 47% in total viewers compared to the eighth season opener which scored a 5.0/11.4 million viewership. The overall Season 8 Live+Same Day average was 3.4 and 7.8 million viewers.
Even so, the show was still the top-rated show on cable for Sunday night by a wide margin – though has now fallen behind NBC’s This Is Us as the top-rated show on TV this Fall – that series averaging a 2.7 after two episodes.
