The 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, the automaker’s answer to Subarus and other hot-selling, all-terrain crossovers, is set to start at $27,770 for the S trim, including shipping.
While it shares its body with the Golf SportWagen, the Alltrack features extra styling cues such as cladding around the bumper, wheel well and side sills, and a unique honeycomb grille. The wagon also is equipped with an Off-Road Mode that adds hill descent control and optimizes traction control for off-road terrain.
All-wheel drive is standard. The overall ride height of the Alltrack is 0.6 inches higher than that of the SportWagen.
Volkswagen is set to launch the model with a six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. Pricing on the SE trim starts at $31,350, and the top SEL starts at $33,710. All prices include a $820 shipping fee. The Alltrack is set to arrive at dealerships in October.
A six-speed manual transmission will be available early in 2017 on the S and SE trims, VW said. With a manual, the S will start at $26,670 and the SE will start at $30,250. Both prices include shipping. Built on the same chassis architecture as the rest of the Golf line, the Alltrack has 30.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 66.5 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. Leatherette seats are standard.
VW considers two Subaru models as the Alltrack’s chief competitors: the Crosstrek and Outback.
