Verizon Wireless and Coral Wireless have filed paperwork with the Federal Communications Commission seeking permission to transfer spectrum licenses from Coral to Verizon.

The seven spectrum licenses fall in the PCS band and cover the entire state of Hawaii. According to Verizon and Coral, Coral will lease access to the spectrum for a period of 12 months after the transaction closes to continue to provide service to its customers.

Verizon will eventually use the spectrum to add capacity to its own operations in Hawaii’s four cellular market areas. The FCC has accepted the initial paperwork from Verizon and Coral and said it will evaluate the proposal. The companies did not place a dollar value on the transaction.
