Valve is changing their Dota 2 plans after deciding that their original plan of spending the next year in beta, adding new features and slowly growing the number of heroes, was “dumb”. The new plan, which they announced on their blog, is to take the current version of Dota 2, which has the The International set of heroes, and “get it out there as fast as we can”.

While Valve is scrapping the original plan, they did reveal that they’ve “still got some work to do in a couple of areas” so Dota 2 will be in the invite-only beta for a bit longer. But, they are removing all restrictions with what players can do with it. That means players who were lucky enough to get an invite can release screenshots, make movies, shoutcast matches, write guides, and make jokes at the dispense of the HUD. In the meantime, Valve will continue to release more heroes, introduce new features, and improve on the existing content as they get more feedback.

This is a major victory fans who played a large part in Valve’s decision, citing the feedback from The International as the main reason behind the decision to scrap the original plan.
