US Bank LogoU.S. Bank today announced a new tool that smartphone and tablet owners can use to set up payees and pay bills without requiring them to fill in forms.

Mobile Photo BillPay, which has been added to the company’s Android and iOS mobile banking applications, lets U.S. Bank customers take a picture of any bill, send the image to U.S. Bank, and then see the payment fields automatically populated with the correct details. After reviewing the information, the customer can then submit the bill for payment.

“We continue to leverage the capabilities of smartphones, and use innovative ways of making banking more convenient for our customers,” said Niti Badarinath, senior vice president and leader of U.S. Bank’s mobile banking channel. “U.S. Bank customers were among the first in the nation to be able to use their mobile device to deposit checks. Now, we’ve made it really easy for our customers to enroll and use BillPay, add billers and pay bills whenever and wherever they choose.”

The Mobile Photo BillPay feature is available to customers for free in the U.S. Bank iPhone, iPad, and Android mobile banking apps.
