Twitter has acquired the social networking website Bagcheck. Bagcheck allows people to create and share a collection of personal items and explain why they are so passionate about them. Other individuals can then comment or give gold stars to what’s “in the bag” if they like it.

Bagcheck has been live for about seven months. It has created about 30 different interest areas, ranging from babies to books to beer. Items within an individual’s personal bag are automatically cataloged and can be found through one of these categories.

The company assured users that the site will continue to operate and content will remain available, searchable and sharable. The company has created a set of HTML and JSON files so the content can be exported and saved.

Twitter has been on a small acquisition spree. Bagcheck represents the third recent acquisition. In April 2010, Twitter bought Atebits, which makes the Tweetie app for the iPad and iOS. More recently, in May of this year, the company bought TweetDeck, a personal browser for connecting across social networks including Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and LinkedIn for $40 million.

Terms of the Bagcheck acquisition have not been announced.
