Toshiba has introduced its first 2.5-inch hard drives to reach 1TB in storage capacity. The drives, which fit in the MQ01ABD series, use 500GB/platter technology to reach a capacity of 1TB within the standard 9.5mm-thick housing design for notebooks and other small devices.
The new technology is said to increase the quantity of data stored per square inch by over 37 percent when compared to the company’s previous-generation 2.5-inch hard drives. The capacity gains are also claimed to arrive alongside improvements to data transfer speeds, noise and power efficiency.
Toshiba expects the MQ01ABD-series drives to begin production in August, however the company has yet to announce pricing details.
