TiVo today posted an iPhone-native version of its free iOS app. The now universal app provides the same DVR scheduling, content browsing, and remote control as on the iPad but in a more condensed form that also works on the iPod touch. The only missing feature is support for a flick-to-play gesture that works only on the iPad’s larger screen.
The app now also has support for more than just the current wave of Premiere (Series 4) DVRs. TiVo promises “limited” interaction with Series 3-based set-tops, including the TiVo HD and HD XL. The partnerships with RCN and Suddenlink come into play with official support for their devices as well.
A handful of bug, connection, and speed fixes are also in place. A guest mode lets users see the local guide without having to have a TiVo subscription.
The app needs any iOS device that can run iOS 4 or later with some features only available when both are on the local network. Android support is known to be coming but isn’t available so far.
