T-Mobile Q4, 2014 Results – 8.3 Million New Customers for 2014

Last month, T-Mobile CEO John Legere made a number of predictions about the coming year in a humorous (and almost entirely swearing-free) Christmas video. Now that 2015 is here, T-Mobile’s Q4 2014 and full-year 2014 numbers have been released, showing a net total of 8.3 million new customers for 2014 — with 2.1 million of those joining the “un-carrier” in the final quarter.

In an announcement released ahead of the company’s Q4 financial call with investors next month, T-Mobile highlighted demographic stats about its influx of new customers. With 8.3 million new users, 2014 marks an 89 percent increase from the prior year. Branded prepaid customers, which Legere was bullish on in his predictions last month, jumped 266,000 in Q4 2014, while branded post-paid customers climbed by 1.3 million, a 47 percent improvement over Q4 2013.

The T-Mobile LTE network now covers a potential 256 million people in the US, with wideband LTE available in 121 metropolitan areas, including New York starting last month. Legere is likely feeling confident that the results will fulfill his holiday prediction that T-Mobile will unseat Sprint as the official third-largest wireless US carrier at some point was “a done deal.”

“Needless to say,” said Legere in today’s announcement, “2014 was a record-breaking year.”
