Star Fox Zero to Run at 60FPS on Both Wii U Screens

star_fox_zero_e3Platinum Games is kind of working outside of its comfort zone with Star Fox Zero. Which is why the team wants to make sure the game isn’t out the door before hitting a certain quality bar. Star Fox Zero was very recently delayed to 2016. One of the game’s major features, and one that is part of why it was delayed, is the fact that it uses both the TV screen and the Wii U GamePad screen.

It’s understandable then that Miyamoto and Platinum Games chose to delay the game. The game’s two-screen controls aren’t the only the reason for the delay though as co-director Yusuke Hashimoto points out.

“We’ve got them both [screens] moving at 60 fps, which is big for a lot of people, I think,” Hashimoto told Gamespot. “But I think that it’s kind of a milestone in gaming, in a way. It’s not something that we have done ourselves before at Platinum, and it’s just not even something that has been done in gaming before. So it’s a lot of new challenges.”

A distinct Platinum feels is what studio fans have come to expect. But because Star Fox Zero is not similar to most of Platinum’s work, the “Platinum feel” needed to be found, according to Hashimoto.

“We want to make it feel as great as possible,” he added. “It’s easy to say [it was delayed] to increase its quality, or whatever, but that entails a lot, whether it be visuals, or controls.”

Star Fox Zero is now slated for a Q1 2016 release.
