Sprint Launches ‘Bill Shock’ Notification Service

Sprint has rolled out a notification service in order to prevent customers from being “shocked” by their monthly bill.

The notifications, which the Federal Communications Commission mandated be in place by April 17, will provide customers with text- or email-based warnings when they reach certain usage levels for voice minutes, text messages, and data usage. For example, customers who have limited voice plans will receive alerts when their plan reaches 85% of the monthly allotment and a second alert when their plan reaches 100% of the monthly allotment.

The same thresholds will be applied to text messages. As for mobile data, customers will be notified when their usage reaches 75%, 90%, and 100% of their monthly allotment, with additional warnings for each 20% by which they exceeds the monthly limit.

Sprint, however, maintains that since the bulk of its subscribers use its Monthly Unlimited plans, these warnings are not necessary for the majority of its customers.
