Soul Calibur V Coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2012

Namco Bandai has officially unveiled Soul Calibur V. The new chapter in Namco’s never-ending Soul Calibur series has been schedule for a 2012 release, on Xbox 360 and PS3.

The story continues after Soul Calibur IV, set 17 years following the fourth game’s events, and revolves around Petroklos, Sophitia’s son. If you’ll remember, she has two children, whom Tira made a point of threatening. Petroklos is now a young man and has taken up a shortsword and (tiny) shield, like his mother and his aunt, Cassandra.  Soul Calibur V will have three characters using the same weapons, though given his mum and auntie both have very feminine moves, he’ll probably still get a fresh move set, regardless of whether his relatives stay.

In addition to character art of Siegfriend and Petroklos (and the latter’s sword), we’ve also got the teaser trailer right here. Nightmare’s about the only non-blonde, and there’s little doubt he’ll be returning — whether as a separate entity or in a new host remains to be seen. Seeing as how Namco never chops a character once he or she makes the roster, we’ll probably get to see all the old faces from Soul Calibur II through IV make a comeback.
