Sony’s A33 Camera Officially Discontinued

Sony Japan announced that the Alpha A33 introduced in August is now discontinued. The camera had a relatively short seven-month lifespan, and it’s expected to be replaced very soon. The A33 shoots 14.2-megapixel images at up to 7FPS.

The larger and related A55 continues on unaffected. The two are the first Sony Alpha cameras that use translucent mirrors that let light hit both the autofocus and image sensors. This design feature allows the cameras to refocus while the sensor is taking the previous shot.

In the US, the A33 costs $650 for the body or $750 with an 18-55mm kit lens. It so far remains on sale in the US.
