Sony’s Xperia U Android smartphone will soon be available in Canada at provider Fido.The 1GHz, dual-core handset launches with Android 2.3 with the promise of Ice Cream Sandwich later in 2012.
The Xperia U measures 112 x 54 x 12mm and weighs 110g. The battery is listed as 1320mAh. The cell only comes stock with 512MB RAM
The selling point of this handset is customization. It uses transparent elements that illuminate in different colors depending on what color theme a user selects. It can also match the color of photos viewed in the gallery or the cover art of music tracks. More color options are offered by interchangeable end caps, with a black and pink one included.
Xperia U sports a 3.5-inch display with a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. There is also a five-megapixel camera out back that’s capable of capturing HD video, along with a VGA front-facing camera.
The phone includes a free, 30-day trial to Sony Music Unlimited. The company’s Video Unlimited service is also available to access from the Xperia U. The handset is DLNA compatible, meaning users can share media on the big screen wirelessly through a supported device.
