Sony Says Reports of Large Number of PS Vita Problems Are Untrue

The PS Vita, which recently launched in Japan, isn’t saddled with the widespread number of problems the media is reporting, Sony said Wednesday. The company does admit a small number of users have filed complaints over consoles not powering up or down and touchscreens freezing. The company calls this normal, considering 325,000 units were sold.

What’s more, news outlets are reporting Sony has issued an apology for the issues, but this addresses the users who have had difficulty reaching Sony’s technical support service in Japan and not the actual bugs, said David Wilson, head of UK PR at Sony Computer Entertainment.

The accuracy of the rebuttal isn’t clear. Most electronics companies often try to downplay any significant issue and will often say it only affects a small number, even if this means tens or hundreds of thousands of customers. The issue still isn’t likely to be widespread given the relatively small batch of devices on shelves.
