Sony Mobile Communications today announced the SmartBand 2, the latest wearable from the manufacturer. Sony calls the new iteration that now includes heart rate monitoring “a multi-sensor lifelogger that provides full-scale insights about your fitness, well-being and stress levels.”

Inside the same SmartBand modular “core” form factor as established with the original, SmartBand 2’s accelerometer and heart rate sensors work together to monitor pulse and heart rate variability, allowing users to gauge overall fitness, excitement and stress levels. Sony’s Lifelog app works in conjunction with the wearable and helps users keep track of progress, with comparative insights, giving users motivational prompts based on activity.

Paired with a smartphone, the Smartband 2 notifies the user of alerts with vibrating notifications and bright pulsing RGB LEDs. It allows control of music on a smartphone or tablet, with taps to play, pause and skip through tracks.

SmartBand 2 will be available in black and white at launch, and pink and indigo shortly after launch. It is compatible with third party bands that were designed for the original SmartBand.

The SmartBand 2 ships in December for €119 ($130).
