Sony Pictures TV to Produce Series Based on Pablo Escobar

bloque de bosquesdaSony Pictures Television (SPT) has jumped onto the Pablo Escobar bandwagon with a different perspective on the notorious Medellin Cartel drug lord. Production has kicked off in Colombia on “Bloque de Busqueda,” a 70-episode teleseries that focuses on the “Search Block” elite squad that helped bring down the “King of Cocaine.”

“The fall of the world’s most notorious drug dealer continues to captivate people to this day, so we anticipate that ‘Bloque de Búsqueda’ will have a very broad appeal,” said Alexander Marin, SPT executive VP, international distribution.

There is no doubt that Colombia’s notorious drug lord continues to fascinate auds worldwide, judging from the success of Caracol’s “Pablo Escobar: El Patron del Mal” and Netflix’s “Narcos.” The man who sowed terror in Colombia from the ‘70s until his death in 1993 has been a source of inspiration for movies, TV shows, books, videogames, music and even paintings.

“There is a strong appetite across the region for smart scripted programming about real people and events,” said Angelica Guerra, SPT senior vice president and managing director, production, Latin America and U.S. Hispanic.

SPT is distributing “Bloque” across Latin America, the U.S. Hispanic market, and worldwide.
