Sony has revealed its new Xperia SP and L range of  android smartphone.  The SP is a mid-range device and centers on a 4.6-inch 720p LCD display with Sony’s Bravia Engine 2 enhancing imagery further. The new L-range sits in under the SP line centering on a 4.3-inch 854×480 display and an unspecified scratch resistant glass.

The Xperia SP will suit users still looking for a high-performance smartphone, but without the additional size and cost that comes with a 5-inch display and quad-core processor. It is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 ‘Krait’ processor clocked at 1.7GHz coupled with an Adreno 320 GPU. To help keep its entry price down, Sony has reduced onboard storage to 8GB, although this can be supplemented with a microSD card. It also comes with 4G LTE, NFC, Bluetooth and GPS/GLONASS.

The Xperia L is also powered by a dual-core Snapdragon processor with Qualcomm’s ‘Krait’ architecture, although it is clocked at a more modest 1GHz. However, Sony has seen fit to include its 8-megapixel Exmor RS camera sensor to help produce higher quality photos. Although NFC is included, the Xperia L is limited to 3G connectivity.

Both the Sony Xperia SP and L go on sale next month with prices to be confirmed on availability.
