Bethesda’s detailed Skyrim’s 1.4 update, which it says provides a slew of bug and quest fixes, the big one being “long term play optimizations for memory and performance (PS3).”

The developer has said on its blog: “We’re hoping to finalize this next week, and submit it to the console manufacturers for certification, as well as release on PC.”

The PS3 fix has been a long time coming, with users experiencing game-crippling lag when clocking up about 35 hours or more of the game, a pitiful amount of play time by Skyrim standards.

Along with the promised PS3 fix, there are numerous other fixes, including such vital changes as “Fixed issue with ash piles not cleaning up properly,” certain to be a relief for every fan.

The many quest fixes are genuinely welcome, as a game as open-ended as Skyrim constantly throws up unexpected, and sometimes unwelcome, results which often lead to quests being impossible to complete.

Bethesda also reveals its plan for PC users, where they will “first release our updates as ‘beta’ versions through Steam”, but this will be optional for Steam users.

The developers also mention the Creation Kit, saying: “we’re on track for a public release near the end of the month.”
