Facebook today revealed a new version of Facebook Messenger featuring a cleaned-up user interface that the social network hopes people will find more appealing.

To start, Messenger 4 will dial back the number of tabs from nine to three with an emphasis on existing one-to-one and group conversations.

These fall under the Chats tab. The camera controls have been moved so they are easier to find and interact with while composing messages.

The People tab lets people seek out their friends, view their friends’ stories, and see who is active at any given time.

The Discover tab is where Facebook says people will find businesses, games, travel, news, and more information.

Apart from these changes, Messenger will introduce new ways for people to customize their experience. Messenger is adding color gradients that employ multiple colors to make chat bubbles more unique. The colors of the conversation will change as people scroll up and down.

Messenger’s advanced tools, such as polls, bill splitting, location sharing, gaming, and group video chats, are still available.

Last, Facebook says a Dark Mode will be rolling out in the near future. Facebook Messenger 4 is being distributed globally in waves over the next few weeks.
