Legendary Dutch actor Rutger Hauer has died at his home in the Netherlands at the age of 75 following a short illness.
Most movie fans in the US will know him in the role of a villain in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner along or from Ladyhawke.
The actor was a leading man in the 1970s in such works as Paul Verhoeven’s series Floris and the film Turkish Delight.
In the USA, SyFy’s horror anthology series Channel Zero –Butcher’s Block, showcased Rutger Hauer’s greatness with a prominent role in the third season. His work on that series was even greater than his work on True Blood.
Hauer was active in social causes as an outspoken sponsor of the environmental organization Greenpeace and the founder the Starfish Association, a non-profit devoted to AIDS awareness.
Hauer’s agent confirmed the news with Hauer’s funeral being held today with Variety.
