Video game studio Harmonix announced it will launch its next Rock Band title for the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live in late August.
Rock Band Blitz will be available for $14.99 on PlayStation 3 on August 28, followed by an Xbox 360 release on August 29.
Although the franchise is long known for urging players to play songs using plastic instruments, Rock Band Blitz ditches the peripherals in favor of a traditional controller.
As with previous titles, notes travel down the screen on a series of tracks representing each instrument. Instead of focusing on just the guitar, bass or drums, players must hop between tracks to keep the music flowing.
Players also gain access to power-ups such as a giant pinball they must keep in play while managing audio tracks to boost scores. For more details, check out our hands-on preview of Rock Band Blitz.
The game will launch with 25 songs, including recently announced tunes from So Far Away by Avenged Sevenfold, We Are Young by Fun. ft. Janelle Monáe, Jungle Boogie by Kool & The Gang and Sing by My Chemical Romance.
Most tracks available in earlier Rock Band titles will be compatible in Blitz, and songs from this game will be playable in the instrument-friendly Rock Band 3.
