Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the creator behind The CW’s Riverdale and Netflix’s Sabrina has set up two more high-profile gothic horror drama series projects.

The first is The Shelley Society for HBO Max who’ve green lite a pilot and an additional script. That series is co-created with Tessa Leigh Williams and James DeWille.

Dubbed a ‘Victorian X-Files’ and focuses on young author Mary Shelley who leads a band of ‘romantic outlaws’ (including Percy and Lord Byron) against all manner of supernatural threats and monsters…including Frankenstein’s monster.

The other project is The Brides, a “sexy, contemporary” reimagining of “The Brides of Dracula” which is going out to premium streamers. That will be co-produced with Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions.

The story is a vampire soap and family drama with a trio of powerful, diverse female leads as immortal women and the things they have to do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy – and their non-traditional family. The new incarnation leans stronger into horror and sexuality than a previous version of the property he developed for NBC in 2015.

The two projects are the first of Aguirre-Sacasa’s new overall deal he signed with Warner Bros. TV in April.
