Rob McElhenny No Longer Part Of The Minecraft Movie Team

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator Rob McElhenny has exited Minecraft, the long in the works animated film adaptation of the popular Mojang video game at Warner Bros. Pictures.

Real Steel and Night at the Museum helmer Shawn Levy was attached to the project and then departed several years ago. McElhenny was later attached and the project seemed to be progressing smoothly until now as he’s left over creative differences.

McElhenny and Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman) wrote the latest draft, and now Aaron and Adam Nee have come onboard to pen a new one. The two Nees are also currently attached to direct the Masters of the Universe reboot.

Minecraft had previously been targeting a May 2019 release but that was already looking impossible before this news broke. At this point, it’s anyone’s guess when we might see it.
