IK Multimedia hit the marketplace with the iRig Mic 3 years ago.  That mic was for podcasting connected to your iOS Device via the headset mini-jack. Today IK Multimedia has released the iRig Voice microphone (US$ 39.99), a similar mic aimed for singing and vocal app such as the companion EZ Voice app (free with in-app purchases).  It also has support for Android device!

EZ Voice

Now the iRig Voice can be used with many recording and podcasting applications. But almost everyone will find EZ Voice a fun app to play with.

EZ Voice is simple to operate and lets you do a number of things very easily, even if you are not a musical person.   Import any track, touch “No Voice”, and the main vocals for that track are silenced so you can now sing along for karaoke enjoyable or method vocal singing with the original band behind-the-scenes.

You can also get add-ins such as autotune (a $ 0.99 in-app acquisition) to give your singing the extra burst, that even pop stars of today need.  Autotune is among many plug-ins that can be purchased, also available are: choir, morph, degree, chorus, EQ, hold-up, filter and reverb. The whole bag of tools can be had for US$ 4.99 vs. making 8 acquisitions at $ 0.99 each (reverb is free of charge when you sign up).

To import a song to sing, I would use the “No Voice” setting and then I selected a recording from my iTunes collection. The setting would removed the vocals, leaving  instrumentals.

This lets me practice for those karaoke nights so I can one up the others in my group. I found that for rock songs the “arena” setting which comes with the standard EZ Voice, has a right amount of  reverb for male voice sing that style of  song. Playing around with the settings and tools is what makes the fun and enjoyment of EZ Voice and the iRig.

iRig Voice

The iRig Voice only comes with minimal documentation.  It mainly covers the best ways to plug everything in, with pictures.

The mic comes 5 eye-catching colours that look great on stage: Green, Blue, Yellow, Pink and White match the colors of the iPhone 5C. It has a solid well made feeling while out being heavy.
