Pebble Passes 275K Units Sold – Better E-mail and iOS Support Coming

Pebble has sold over 275,000 units of its smartwatch so far, according to an announcement. Roughly 85,000 of those were sold through the pre-launch Kickstarter campaign, but the remaining 190,000 were sold via the Pebble website. The device is now available at retail as well through Best Buy.

Expanded email functions are planned for people pairing the watch with iOS. Within the next two to three weeks iOS users will get access to email notifications; the company explains that it expected iOS 6 to support sending email notifications via Bluetooth, but initially found that only SMS and iMessage notifications worked reliably. The company has since “cracked the email puzzle,” and promises that notifications will be available for Gmail and IMAP accounts thanks to an updated Pebble app.
