Panasonic’s latest addition to the GF Lumix line introduces more functions to help with self portraits. The Lumix GF7 mirrorless camera automatically turns on a Self Shot mode when its 3-inch 1040K-dot touchscreen is flipped 180 degrees, with it also offering selfie-friendly Soft Skin, Defocusing, and Slimming Mode shooting and editing options.

Using a 16-megapixel Micro Four Thirds Live MOS Sensor with the Venus Engine image processor, the GF7 is said to have a range of rapid auto focus capabilities, including Low Light AF, Face and Eye Detection AF, and Contrast AF. Capable of recording 1080p video in AVCHD 50p or in MPEG-4 H.264, it also has Touch AF and AF Tracking while recording. Sensitivity ranges between ISO 100 and 25,600, while its shutter offers speeds of up to 1/16,000 of a second.

A total of 22 filter options are available, ranging from retro and dynamic monochrome to advanced functions such as “Toy Effect,” with shots able to be taken with and without the filter simultaneously, with the camera also including time lapse and stop motion animation capture modes. When connected to a smartphone or tablet over Wi-Fi, the GF7 can transfer images for sharing with social networks and be remotely controlled. The mobile connection also enables a new Jump Snap function, which can trigger the shutter when the smartphone detects the user is at the highest point of a jump.

Shipping with a 12-32mm kit lens, the Panasonic Lumix GF7 will sell for £429 ($650) when it goes on sale in the United Kingdom in March.
