Panasonic Launches 65-inch Ultra HD TV with HDMI 2.0

Panasonic has launched its first Ultra HD television at IFA, the first to be compatible with the recently-announced HDMI 2.0 standards. The Smart Viera L65WT600 television, measuring 65 inches, is able to receive 4K-resolution video at 60 frames per second, double that of the 30fps that current HDMI standards are capable of producing.

Aside from HDMI 2.0, the Ultra HD television will also support Display Port 1.2a connections, and has gained THX 4K certification according to CNET. A proprietary 4K Intelligent Frame Creation system allows for 4K video to be displayed at 120fps, with its 4K Hexa-Processing Engine performing upscaling duties for lower-resolution content. Smart TV functions include the ability to play 4K H.264 videos through its SDXC memory card slot and USB ports, a Flash-ready web browser, a built-in webcam, and integrated Wi-Fi connectivity.

Panasonic will be shipping the Viera WT600 in October, with pre-orders starting today, priced at $6,000.
