OptiTex, in partnership with DAZ 3D, has announced a version of its Dynamic Clothing Engine for Mac that leverages the 64-bit nature of OS X as well as a corresponding update for the Windows version to enable 64-bit operation. The plug-in is used with DAZ 3D to allow users to apply dynamic clothing sets to figures created in the program, and user can easily alter fabrics, garment sizes and style variations.

The Dynamic Clothing Control plug-in allows users to add gravity modifications and wind along with custom fabric types that can be applied to dynamic clothing items. Fine-grain controls such as the way clothing calculates self-intersection during drapes, internal pressure and other factors add realism to the way clothing hangs on a figure, including altering gravity to make the clothes float, as though underwater or in a low-gravity situation. The clothing can also be exported as part of a Collada file by converting the dynamic clothes into static morph points.

DAZ 3D is a 3D figure creation program that offers a basic version (now free for a limited time) and various upgrades and add-ons at various price points. The OptiTex clothing add-on sells for $50 (discounted for Platinum Club members). Additional clothing types are also available. Lion users are cautioned that there are still known issues with OS X 10.7.
