Opera LogoMicrosoft has agreed to replace the Nokia Xpress browser on low-end and mid-range handsets with Opera’s Mini browser. Moving forward, Opera Mini will become the default browser on Asha devices and feature phones bearing the Nokia brand.

Both the Nokia Xpress browser and Opera Mini use server-side compression to help reduce data usage over mobile networks. Opera Mini has become very popular in India, where many Asha devices are still sold. Opera believes this distribution agreement will help it add approximately 100 million users in India and other emerging markets.

Internet Explorer is the default browser on Microsoft’s Windows Phone handsets.
