Opera Software today made a beta version of its new WebKit-based browser available to Android devices in the Google Play Store. Opera announced earlier this year plans to switch from its own home-grown Presto rendering engine to the more widely-used WebKit rendering engine.

The beta now available in the Play Store is the first version of Opera Mobile to include the WebKit rendering engine, as well as Opera’s own user interface tweaks. Opera’s customizations include a revised Speed Dial screen, simplified tab management, and deep browsing history support.

The beta browser is free to try on devices running Android 4.0 and up.
