Olivia MunnThe CW is developing a female sportscaster-centric series from exec producer Olivia Munn. The untitled project is set in 1974 and revolves around a young journalist who gets hired by an ambitious New York news programming chief as a publicity stunt to be one of the first female on-air sports reporters. She has to learn to navigate gender politics in front of and behind the camera at a time when women were literally not even allowed in the press box.

From scribe Ted Humphrey (“The Good Wife”), Munn — a former sideline reporter — is attached as an exec producer, along with Stacia Peters, who worked in production on HBO’s “The Newsroom,” on which Munn starred. The potential series hails from CBS Television Studios.

The CW project marks Munn’s foray into producing. Her other acting credits include “Magic Mike,” Johnny Depp’s “Mortdecai” and “New Girl.” She rose to prominence as host of G4’s “Attack of the Show!” and was a correspondent on “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart. She began her career as an intern at a local NBC affiliate and then at Fox Sports Net where she covered college football and women’s basketball. She is repped by CAA and Atlas Artists.
