Nokia Phases Out Ovi Share on May 30

Nokia is advising users of Ovi Share that the mobile cloud storage service will be stopped altogether and all content erased as of May 30. Users have until then to back up all of their content through their desktop or notebook computers. Content can be downloaded all at once in a ZIP package or in smaller chunks.

The Finnish cell phone maker explained the business decision was made in order for the company to focus on its core service such as Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps, and Nokia Transport. It’s also likely that the service will soon no longer be needed, as Windows Phone-powered Nokia smartphones can access Microsoft’s SkyDrive cloud storage service along with Facebook and numerous other services.

Users will no longer have the ability to upload to Ovi Share through the web by March 13, and the service will no longer be accessible on May 31.
