The Nikon 1 mirrorless compact camera range will get its anticipated F-mount adapter next week in Japan. The F-mount adapter will allow users of DSLR cameras who have collected standard lenses over the years use them in conjunction with the new CX-format camera. The FT1 adapter will go on sale on December 22 for the equivalent of $300.

In addition to allowing users to use their existing lenses, or buy new F-mount compatible lenses, will also let AF-S lenses employ the 1-series cameras’ highly regarded autofocus system. The only technical drawback is that the lenses will be restricted to the 2.7x crop factor of the CX-format – this puts it in a new category slightly below the Micro Four Thirds format.

The Nikon 1-series cameras range in price from $649 to $1,149. They all sport Nikon’s latest dual-core Expeed 3 processor that allows the devices to deliver a fast 73-point, phase-based autofocusing system.
