Nikon’s new 1 System-based mirrorless cameras, the V1 andJ1are now available for pre-order, with a ship date of November 15 at Amazon. This is slightly behind schedule, as they were promised to be available on October 20, but may have been affected by the supply shortage due to the factory flood in Thailand. The J1 is priced at $649 while the V1 costs $899.

Either has the same 10.1-megapixel sensor and includes a 10-30mm, f/3.5 VR 1 Nikkor lens. The V1 can be had in a kit with an additional 30-110mm zoom lens or a second fixed 10mm lens. Either of those bundles bumps the price to $1,150.

Part of the reason the J1 is significantly less costly is its plastic body. The J1 can be had in black, red, silver, white and pink while the V1 can only be had in black. Both can simultaneously record 1080p video and take photos. The V1 improves on the J1 with an electronic viewfinder and a mechanical shutter.

The twosome is the first to get the company’s dual-core Expeed 3 processor that gives them with a fast, 73-point, phase-based autofocus system.
