Nike+ GPS Gets Check-Ins with Version 3.2

Nike has updated its Nike+ GPS application for the iOS devices to version 3.2, adding a sync-able history of a user’s last 30 runs (including cumulative stats and records). It also makes minor improvements to the “Last to Run Tag” game setup, adds new maps that enable runners to track elevation and pace as well as save favorite routes, and adds a “check-in” type feature and leaderboards on the NikePlus web site.

The $2 app, which does not require a sensor, can track indoor and outdoor runs and records pace, distance and the route if GPS is available. It features motivational messages, voice feedback, a “run leaderboard,” an option to choose songs that help keep the pace, social network connections and a motivational variation of “tag” where the last person in a group to run a particular route loses.

The new version allows users to set a minimum distance that others must run to qualify in the “Last to Run Tag” game, as well as allows users to save their favorite routes as maps. Users who frequent a particular route can be named “Route Boss” on Nike+ Top Route on the website, and the app will also now let users view the most popular running routes in the areas as well as recommended routes. The update also squashes a few Facebook sharing bugs.

Nike+ GPS requires iOS 4 or higher to run. While GPS ability is not mandatory, certain features rely on it and thus will not work on an iPod Touch or Wi-Fi only iPad.
