newsweek_smWeekly magazine Newsweek today announced the launch of its first iPhone app. The new app is available through Apple’s App Store and will allow consumers to read the full weekly magazine outside of online magazine subscription services, and in a custom layout optimized for smartphones for the first time.

Newsweek provides the latest news, in-depth analysis and ideas about international issues, technology, business, culture and politics. In addition to its online and mobile presence, Newsweek publishes weekly English print editions in the United States, Europe/Middle East/Africa and Asia as well as editions in Japanese, Korean, Polish, Serbian, Spanish and Czech. Newsweek is owned by IBT Media.

The magazine is currently available to Next Issue subscribers as part of its $15 per month plan. However, the presentation in the new application is unique.

The iPhone app will be free for current Newsweek subscribers. New readers will get one free issue when they download the app, and can then purchase single issues for $5, a one month subscription for $4 or a one year subscription for $40. Subscribers will get each week’s full issue on Thursdays, one day ahead of print issues, which hit newsstands on Fridays.
