CBS New Star TrekThe first new “Star Trek” series in more than a decade will be shot in Toronto, CBS Television Studios revealed Wednesday. The show will begin shooting this fall.

The studio tweeted Monday, “This just in! The new #STARTREK TV series will set course for Toronto and begin filming this fall. #CBSAllAccess.”

CBS announced late last year that it would develop a new “Star Trek” television series for its subscription streaming service, CBS All Access. The series is set to debut in early 2017. The first episode is slated to air on CBS, with subsequent episodes being available to watch only on All Access.

CBS Television Studios has not yet announced what studio space in Toronto the production will use. A spokesperson for the studio declined to comment beyond confirming the tweet.

“Hannibal” creator Bryan Fuller is set to serve as showrunner on the new series. He will serve as executive producer with Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin. Fuller began his career as a writer on “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” and “Star Trek: Voyager.”

CBS holds the television rights to the “Star Trek” franchise under the terms of its 2006 split with Viacom, its former corporate parent. Viacom-owned Paramount continues to hold the film rights to the franchise.
