Netflix has acquired the film rights to The Division series of video games from Ubisoft. The upcoming movie has Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain slated to star.

The first game is set in a dystopian New York City in the aftermath of a pandemic spread by paper money. The player, who is an agent of the Strategic Homeland Division, is tasked with helping to rebuild the Division’s operations in Manhattan investigating the nature of the outbreak and combating criminal activity in its wake.

The online-only action role-playing third-person shooter game became the fastest-selling new IP in video game history and currently has more than 20 million players. A sequel was released earlier this year.

Rafe Judkins (Wheel of Time) will adapt the screenplay with David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw) directing. The news was announced at Ubisoft’s annual E3 press conference and subsequently confirmed by the streamer.

Gyllenhaal, Chastain, Leitch, Kelly Carmichael, Kelly McCormick and Riva Marker will produce.
