NBC has plans to bring to the small screen an In the Line of Fire TV series, based on the 1993 feature film starring Clint Eastwood. Deadline has the news, reporting that Sony Pictures TV is developing the property with CSI scribes Josh Berman and Carol Mendelsohn attached to write. At the moment, the network has given the In the Line of Fire TV series a scripted commitment.

According to the outlet, the In the Line of Fire TV series will, like the film, follow a disgraced Secret Service agent who, alongside a female partner, finds a chance for redemption when the President’s life falls in the crosshairs of a rogue CIA hitman. It appears that the series will have both leads investigate cases together with an overall arc tied to preventing the attempted Presidential assassination.

Word of an In the Line of Fire TV series arrives just few days after yesterday’s report that NBC has given a series commitment to a Taken TV series, based on the series of films starring Liam Neeson. Both series join a wave of big to small screen adaptations such as FOX’s upcoming Minority Report and CBS’ Limitless.

In the Line of Fire was written by Jeff Maguire, directed by Wolfgang Petersen and, in addition to Eastwood, stars John Malkovich, Rene Russo, Dylan McDermott, Gary Cole and John Mahoney. It grossed more than $176 million worldwide and was nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Editing, Best Original Screenplay and, for Malkovich, Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
