NBC is developing a series from the A-list comedy team of “How I Met Your Mother” alum Kourtney Kang, “Fresh Off the Boat” creator Nahnatchka Khan and Fred Savage. The untitled single-camera comedy landed a hefty put pilot commitment, putting it high in contention for the 2017-2018 season.

Based on Kang’s life, the series will explore what it’s like to grow up as the only girl in the only mixed race family in the suburbs of Philadelphia, dealing with real-world issues like race and gender, while never losing focus of her life goal — to become a Laker Girl like her idol, Paula Abdul.

Kang penned the script, and will serve as an executive producer with Khan and Savage, who will direct the pilot. All three are under deals at 20th Century Fox Television, which is behind the project, along with Khan’s Fierce Baby banner.

The comedy marks the first sale for Khan and her company’s development head, Mandy Summers, through Fierce Baby, which is housed at 20th Century Fox TV under a pod deal. The project marks a reunion for Khan and Kang. The former is the creator, showrunner and executive producer of “Fresh Off the Boat,” and the latter is co-executive producer on that show.

For Savage, the potential series marks the first project under his new deal at 20th. He was last in business with the studio as Rob Lowe’s co-star on “The Grinder.” His directing credits include episodes of “Modern Family,” “Friends with Better Lives,” “The Crazy Ones,” “Playing House” and “Casual.”
